Our Easter celebrations are Christ-centered, so we are not big into typical Easter traditions with the chocolate bunnies and such, but my Hungarian husband has always loved the tradition of dyeing eggs for Easter. I think some of these ideas are just gorgeous and would be a lovely way of ushering in Spring!
Here are a few tips to get you started on the fun!
Fool-Proof Hard Boiled Eggs:
- Place 6 large eggs in a medium heavy saucepan.
- Add water to cover by 1 1/2″.
- Bring to a boil and immediately remove from heat.
- Cover and let stand for 10 minutes.
- Transfer eggs to a bowl of ice water to cool.
- Gently crack the eggs and peel under running water.
For Coloring Eggs with Food Dye:
- ADD 1 teaspoon of vinegar and desired color amounts to 1 – 2 cups of boiling water.
- DIP hard-cooked eggs about 5 minutes or longer until desired color is achieved.
- REMOVE to a wire rack to cool. After color dries, it will not rub off!
If you want to save your egg projects from year to year, you can blow out the uncooked eggs first.
