UPDATE (7/1/14):

NEW RECALL: Graco Officially Recalls Harness Buckles on Select Infant Car Seats!

“You can determine whether or not the buckle on your Graco infant car seat is recalled by entering the model name and date of manufacture on GracoBuckleRecall.com. This information can be found on the white label located on the bottom of the infant car seat carrier. You can order a replacement buckle by completing the online order form, and we will ship you a replacement kit at no cost in Summer 2014.”

UPDATE (3/13/14):

Graco has added over 403,222 more safety seats to the recall list!

Toddler Convertible Car Seats:

  • Cozy Cline
  • Comfort Sport
  • Classic Ride 50
  • My Ride 65
  • My Ride 70
  • My Ride 65 with Safety Surround
  • Size4Me 70
  • My Size 70
  • Head Wise 70 with Safety Surround
  • Ready Ride
  • Smart Seat
  • Smart Seat with Safety Surround

Harnessed Booster Seats:

  • Nautilus 3-in-1
  • Nautilus Elite
  • Nautilus Plus
  • Argos 70
  • Argos 70 Elite

Graco is recalling nearly 3.8 million car safety seats due to buckles that may not unlatch making it “difficult to remove the child from the restraint, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a vehicle crash, fire or other emergency.”

This recall currently involves only the following 11 forward-facing models sold from 2009 – 2013:

  • Cozy Cline
  • Comfort Sport
  • Classic Ride 50
  • My Ride 65
  • My Ride with Safety Surround
  • My Ride 70
  • Size 4 Me 70
  • Smartseat
  • Nautilus
  • Nautilus Elite
  • Argos 70

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is strongly encouraging Graco to add rear-facing infant seats to the recall as well due to the same latch issues.  Although Graco isn’t recalling those seats, the company will provide replacement buckles for these models:

  • Snugride
  • Snugride 30
  • Snugride 32
  • Infant Safe Seat-Step 1
  • Snugride 35
  • Tuetonia 35
  • Snugride Click Connect 40

If your child’s safety seat is among those affected in this recall, you can order FREE replacement buckles by calling Graco’s consumer hotline at 800-345-4109 or visiting the Graco website.

Read the full article HERE and get information on this recall directly from Graco HERE.

Note: I have read that many parents found this recalled buckle difficult to open from the time of purchase, even on the infant seats that would not seem to be “gunked up” with food or drink!

Be sure to pass this important information on to friends with little ones in car seats!
